FRP is the best material because you can easily repair it if there is a crack. FRP tank manufacturers know this and thus, they are carefree because they have a list of loyal clients with them.

FRP is a pliable, soft material that gets hard and stronger when dried. There is no crack that you cannot fix on FRP. Though the repairing job may be tedious, but a little precaution and right repairing practice can help a lot. The time you will give in repairing task depends on the size or area to fix. As long as you take your time and do the preps, your repair will be stronger than that area of your FRP tank was before the break.

Here are the steps to follow-

  1. Plug your air compressor in and let it build up pressure. Plug the air hose into the compressor and link your dye grinder. When there is sufficient air pressure, grind directly over the crack until the actual crack gets filled.
  2. Use grinding tool to soften both the edges of the valley into a gradual slope going down into the valley. For best results, make the valley as smooth as possible. Use the sand paper and scuff the area. Do check that the area is dull and has no glossy spots.
  3. Cut a piece of your FRP mat to fill the opening and place it in the valley. Gradually increase the size of every layer you put in the valley until the mat is slightly thicker than the surface of the tank.
  4. Fill the bucket with the resin as required for repairing. Put catalyst in the resin, use the ratio of 19:1 (19 parts of resin and 1 part of catalyst).
  5. Stir your mix for 30 seconds. Make sure it gets mixed well for proper setting. Clean the area and make it dirt free. Use paintbrush to wet the repair area with your resin mix.
  6. Start pasting the smallest piece of mat that you cut. Saturate the mat layer with mix using brush. Lay the next largest piece of mat with your mixture and repeat the saturating process and add layers until all pieces are used.
  7. Allow the pieces to sit and cool. Once it is hard, sand the repair until it is smooth. Look for weak or thin spots. Add layers to the weak spots if you discover.
